Releasing Unresolved Emotional Trauma from Cellular Memory
What is Unresolved Emotional Trauma? and how does it get stuck in our cellular memory?
To me, unresolved emotional trauma is when in the past things happened that were too difficult to emotionally process through, and to survive through the experience of more emotion than we can handle, our subconscious mind dissociates us from the feeling process of the experience to resolve it at another time when we are more capable or have the proper support. Unresolved trauma could be from an an unexpected loss, an accident, or simply through not being supported to be ourself through what we are feeling or in something we are doing.
What happens to this emotional energy that we dissociated from? If it is not experienced and felt through, it is unresolved and gets stuck within our psyche and in our body through resistant holding patterns that are designed to help us avoid the same kinds of feelings and experiences. Unfortunately over time, this takes its tole on our body because we keep acting unconsciously from the unresolved traumas coping behaviours that our subconscious mind created to help us survive the original events. In essence we are reliving the by-product of the past trauma every time we trigger into the old coping behaviour. Along with these coping behaviours, our body carries the unresolved energies in our cellular memory through holding patterns of resistance.
To release these holding patterns that are keeping the unresolved energies of the past traumatic feelings safely away from our experience, we need to let go of the holding patterns to allow the stuck energies to release out of our cellular memory. To do this we just need to re-associate to our body feeling sensations through loving acceptance of what we feel in life as it happens. This is like loosening our grip from a sponge to allow it to absorb new water. The cellular memory in our body will let go of the old trauma when we practice allowing and feeling through the emotions of life as it happens, which will allow the old holding patterns of tension in our muscles to relax and release the resistance that creates the holding patterns. This frees our cells to open up room to new energy.
To do this we need a regular Awareness Practice
- Sit in a comfortable place and breathe in and out
- Just notice the feeling sensations of your breathing
- Feel your ribcage expanding and contracting
- Feel the air moving in and out of your nose and windpipe
- Notice the feeling sensations in your body
- Just observe, allow, and experience what you feel
- When thoughts pull you away, practice guiding your attention back to your body feeling
- This becomes allowing and accepting your body as it is
- This gives the message to your subconscious mind that life is safe
- This becomes allowing and accepting life as it is
- Resistant holding patterns cannot exist when we are allowing and accepting life as it is and feel feel safe
When we are accepting and allowing our body feelings and sensations, and life as it is, there is no resistance anymore to create holding patterns that keep old stuck emotions in our body. This will bring up feelings and emotions that we are not used to, but if we breathe into them, allow, and observe and experience the feeling sensations in our body, we will process through them, and in time, become emotionally competent from practicing being aware of what we are feeling on a regular basis. A regular Awareness Practice is vitally important!
